For those of you who don't believe in Karma let me tell you its 100 percent true.
While Chris and I were walking along the beach in Laguna. This is after we had bought our New obsession. I received a phone call from the "Biddy". Conversation went something like this...
Hey Janell this is "Biddy". I just wanted to know if you were interested in buying my ghia.
Me: Um..what do you mean?
Biddy: Well the cash sale that was suppose to happen on Saturday fell through.
Me: Well actually we are in LA right now and we found another Ghia that we bought.
Biddy: Oh...well.
Me: Sorry, bye
It was a glorious moment. After all she put us through. So let me tell you Karma does come around and it bites really bad.

We Found One

Going home that night with our tails between our legs I started scouring The Samba, Craigslist, KSL, Classic Cars, and any other website I could find that is related to Ghias. I found one on Autotrader in Mission Viejo, CA that night. What a gorgeous car. I called the owner, Mike first thing in the morning and told him we would be interested in buying it but we were from out of state and we would have to fly in to LAX. He assured me that it was no problem. So once again we were flying high I made all of the travel arrangements, scheduled the sitter and took the next day off AGAIN!
We flew out on Monday morning at the ungodly hour of 6 a.m. I know its really not that early for some of you but for me it just sucks. Called Mike again to make sure that he wasn't going to sell it out from under us and he again assured us that he wouldn't. We made it into Mission Viejo by 9 and had our first real glimpse of our new obsession.
I must say that Mike was amazing, he took us through every inch of that car. He went over how each nick got there as well as what still needed to be done. He recommended a local mechanic that would look at the car to make sure everything was okay and to make sure the brakes were bled. Thank god because when we went there they found a gas leak which they coulnd't fix but recommended us to another shop, Unique Imports.
We pulled into this other shop and the owner, Chip came out and lifted the bonnet and proceeded to rip out hoses and fittings and threw them on the ground saying we didn't need them. You all know Chris, walking right behind him picking up all the pieces he threw on the ground. The gas leak was fixed by just replacing a hose. When we walked into the front door he literally had cages of reptiles surrounding his office. He had an iguana, a snake, chameleon, frogs, lizards, and other creepy slimy creatures. Kinda creeped me out. He was quite entertaining and we ended up leaving the car with him for about 4 hours. We finally left at around 6 pm. Just in time for rush hour traffic back up to LA to return the rental car.
Finally, alone with our new obsession at last , we instantly fell in love.
Now about those fittings we supposedly didn't need. Yep Chris was right, we needed them. We just fixed our canisters last week to help reduce the smell of fuel in the car. Who knew? Of course Chris.
The Beginnings of Our Search for a Karmann Ghia Convertible
We originally started looking at a truck in January but couldn't quite come to terms with the payments.....UGH. Yes I'm cheap, no wait THRIFTY. Then once gas prices started jumping at an astronomical rates I started looking at other options. Some of you have known that Chris has wanted a Ghia since he was a teen or early adult. I guess my dad has been on the lookout all of these years because when my mom told him, He says: I know exactly what he wants he's wanted one of those forever. Who knew my Dad listens? Anyways, I digress. I started looking at Ghias on Ebay, Craigslist and our local KSL ads. I found one on Craigslist in Sacramento where we meet
Talked with said Biddy and she said she would sell it to us. No problems, I will hold it. I understand that you are flying in from another state. Blah Blah Blah...This was on a Friday afternoon, we scheduled flights, we booked hotel rooms, we found a sitter for Caity and the dog, and we went to the bank and had the check cut for the lady in Sac. Saturday afternoon around 1 pm we are helping Terah and Brian around their house and she calls and says: Oh I had someone come by and offer me cash for the car and I'm going to sell it to him right now. Holy crap! What a BIDDY....I had to keep it G-rated cuz I was in front of the kids:)
We could not believe that she would do this. We have just scheduled flights and rooms, had a check cut. Now what were we suppose to do....
Luckily I was able to go to the bank who happen to be open Saturday afternoon and have the check redeposited in our account...Thank God. We might not have stores open on Sundays but we have banks open until 3 pm on Saturday. WOOHOO!! We go home upset, angry, our hopes crushed to a bloody pulp. How sad we were.

Thought We Would Try This Out
I'm leaving MySpace (Caity, I'm still watching you). I figured you would more likely come here to read what's happening in our lives or not. Doesn't matter to me.
