As Chris was flying down I-215 in our 1970 Ghia, wind blowing in his hair, phone up to his ear talking with me. What should happen? Oh yeah, the driver's side tire BLEW! After carefully pulling over to the side of road he surveyed the damage.

The tire tread actually flipped up and took out the side mirror. Thank goodness it missed his head.

It actually put a fist size hole into the engine compartment, buckled the fender panel and tore the chrome bumper on the bottom.

This is all very very very sad, but that's what insurance is for right! Now if we could just buy insurance for engines that would be perfect.
As I was saying...the weekend after the tire blew we had a car show down in Provo, Utah. The Wasatch Classic is "Utah County's Premier VW Car Show". It was our second year and we love going down and hanging with our New VW Club show friends. As I was driving our now damaged 1970 Ghia, Chris was driving the 1968 Ghia. Just as we got past the Pleasant Grove exit, I saw smoke coming out of the ghia. Sure enough we pulled over lifted the lid and the freaking engine was on fire. Chris is trying to blow it out and I am running down the freeway to the tow truck (who happened to be broken down) looking for an extinguisher. Luckily Chris apparantly is full of a lot of air because he was able to blow the fire out. Once the fire was out we inspected engine and sure enough. We had blew a rod right through the engine. Gaping hole and all. CRAP!!!
Luckily for us we have amazing VW friends. Eric drove his truck and trailer (along with Jaime) to pick Chris up and took us to the show down in Happy Valley. After the show the Lambs took us back down to Happy Valley, loaded up the Ghia and brought us all the way back to West Jordan. AWESOME!
So if you know any who happens to have an 1835 VW Engine or anyone who can do VW bodywork. I am looking.
